Passports and immigration

Entry conditions for visitors entering from the UK

Due to increased security measures at British ports of entry, you should always carry a form of photographic ID with you when you travel. If you do not have a form of photographic ID, it would be wise for you to carry a letter from the Home Office confirming your residential status in the UK.

Immigration controls for holders of a British or European passport / identity card

There are no immigration controls between the United Kingdom (UK) and Jersey, so there is no immigration requirement for you to carry your passport or identity card.

From 1 October, EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can only travel to the UK and Jersey using a valid passport. From this date, an ID card will not be accepted and entry will be refused at the border. The only exceptions are for citizens who have

  • applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
  • have protected rights under the Citizens’ Rights Agreements

Before then, European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and swiss citizens can travel to the UK with a valid passport or identity card.

No visas are required for EU and EEA nationals.
