Ports of Jersey is bringing UK charity Incredible Oceans to Jersey for a series of events aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting our marine environments. The events will take place from 18 to 20 July and will focus on fostering a deeper understanding and respect for marine life and biodiversity, ensuring that future generations inherit a vibrant and resilient planet.
On the Friday evening there will be an informative session titled “How to Save the Ocean,” where Dr Russell Arnott will share inspiring stories and practical tips on sustainability and conservation efforts. This session will delve into the biodiversity of the coastlines around Jersey and the UK and discuss actionable steps to protect our oceans and save marine life.
The weekend will feature a special event tailored for younger audiences, held in the Ocean Dome outside the Maritime Museum on New North Quay. Families will have the opportunity to experience the magic of marine life, engage with interactive exhibits, and immerse themselves in the vibrant world beneath the waves. This event is free to attend and open to everyone.
Sophie Alexander, Head of Sustainability and Community Values at Ports of Jersey, expressed her excitement about bringing Incredible Oceans to Jersey. “Both events will show how we can play our part in a fun and engaging way, raising awareness of the impact we have on our oceans and how important they are to the planet. I’m looking forward to Dr Russell Arnott’s talk, as he’s a captivating speaker, and I’m sure the Ocean Dome will be great for families to have something to do at the start of the school holidays.”
Dr Arnott from Incredible Oceans added, “We’re thrilled to bring our Ocean Dome and fun activities to Jersey! At Incredible Oceans, we’re passionate about combining science, storytelling, and spectacle to inspire ocean connection—and Jersey’s strong community spirit and coastal heritage make it the perfect place to share our interactive experiences. We can’t wait to dive into conversations about marine life, conservation, and how we can all help protect our blue planet.”
