The Shells floating pods at St Helier Marina have earned the prestigious Green Tourism Silver Award, recognising our commitment to the environment and sustainability.
This independent accreditation means our practices have been thoroughly assessed across 15 sustainability criteria. It shows that we have an ongoing commitment to:
- sustainability standards and practices
- work responsibly, ethically, and sustainably
- contribute to our community
- reduce our impact on the environment
- be accessible and inclusive to all visitors and staff.
The pods were designed to reduce energy use as much as possible, with features such as solar PV panels, air source heat pumps and high-performance insulation.
Achieving Silver is a testament to the teamwork across our Harbour, Marina, and Sustainability teams. But our journey doesn’t stop here—we’re aiming for Gold by improving waste management, reducing chemical use, enhancing guest communications, and making our pods even more accessible.
Key highlights from our assessment include:
- strong focus on health and wellbeing
- active community involvement
- efforts to protect biodiversity
- minimising our carbon footprint
- creating memorable, responsible guest experiences
Sustainability is at the heart of The Shells, and we’re committed to making a positive impact for our visitors, our Island, and the planet
Green Tourism award

As the organisation that runs the Island’s airport and harbour, tourism is a core part of what we do. Joining Green Tourism wasn’t about collecting a badge, it was about having our approach independently assessed and held to account
With a growing number of travellers actively looking for more sustainable options, certification also helps Jersey stand out as a destination that takes these issues seriously. Investing in the Island and its people is central to Ports of Jersey’s role.
