Improving access and creating space at Jersey Airport

Published: 15 October 2025

Pedestrians will soon find it easier to walk around Jersey Airport thanks to a new link between two existing public footpaths. The proposed connection, from Avenue de la Commune to Mont à la Brune, will create a continuous walking route around the airport, improving access and encouraging more people to enjoy the area on foot.

This improvement is part of a wider project to prepare the airport for future redevelopment. To make space for both the new footpath and upcoming infrastructure upgrades, Ports of Jersey is applying for planning permission to remove two unused buildings near the fuel farm. These post-war structures, once home to the Airport Social Club and operational offices, have not been used for many years and are now showing signs of serious structural damage.

Ashley Maggs (Mr), Airport Operations Director, said, “These buildings have outlived their use, and removing them is an important step in preparing the airport for the future. I’m really pleased we can also use this opportunity to improve public access by linking up the footpaths. It’s a small change that makes a big difference for people walking in the area.”

The existing footpaths currently run from the Overseas Squadron Air Training Corps to the engineering area on one side, and from Avenue de la Commune to the old Social Club on the other. This proposal will join them up, creating a safer and more convenient route for pedestrians.

The removal of the buildings will also open up space for future development that supports the Island’s critical airport operations. A new fence will be installed to separate public and operational areas, ensuring safety and compliance with airport regulations.
