Jersey Coastguard is excited to welcome the public to its annual Open Day on Sunday 12 October, from 11am to 2pm at the Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) in Maritime House. This is a fantastic opportunity for islanders to step behind the scenes and discover how Jersey’s waters are kept safe all year round.
Whether you’re a boat owner, a search and rescue volunteer, interested in a maritime career, or simply curious about what happens in the Coastguard’s control room, there’s something for everyone. Visitors can meet the friendly team behind the voices on VHF radio, take a guided tour of the MOC, and learn more about the vital work of the Coastguard and Vessel Traffic Service (VTS)—from coordinating search and rescue missions to monitoring vessel movements and responding to emergencies.
The Open Day is also a great chance to ask questions about sea safety, find out about career opportunities, and see first-hand how Jersey Coastguard works with its search and rescue partners to keep Jersey’s coastline safe.
Philip Le Neveu, Jersey Coastguard and St Helier VTS Manager, said, “We’re delighted to welcome the community into our Operations Centre. The Open Day is a great way for people to meet the team, see the technology we use, and learn more about the important role Jersey Coastguard plays in keeping our waters safe. We hope to inspire the next generation of maritime professionals and share some essential sea safety tips along the way.”
Space in the MOC is limited, so access will be managed in small groups throughout the day, but there’s no need to book, just turn up. All ages are welcome, and families are encouraged to come along.
