Community Boost funds local charities

From Port of Jersey
10th December 2024

Ports of Jersey’s charity funding scheme has allocated £14,800 to five local charities in its latest set of grants. This brings the total amount provided by Community Boost this year to £34,422, given to ten different charitable organisations.

This latest set of funding focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion, community wellbeing and education. The five successful applicants were Healing Waves, Music in Action, Project Linus, Caring Cooks (mobile catering unit), and the Oxygen Therapy Centre.

Since Community Boost was launched in April this year, 31 applications have been considered. Five applications previously received, as well as 11 new applications, were shortlisted and taken to the decision panel.

These applications were rated on positive impact in the community, deliverable timescale and greatest impact. The panel scored the shortlisted projects and each member’s top five projects were registered. The projects that received the most votes were then awarded a grant.

Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Alexander, said: “We are pleased that Community Boost has been so successful in its first year and we are proud to support a variety of charities and some really impactful projects. We have made sure that the application process is as easy as possible, and we look forward to receiving many more applications for 2025.”

The co-founder and executive director of Healing Waves, Max Wiltshire, said: “This is absolutely wonderful news and we are thrilled to have such amazing support from Ports of Jersey.”

The Chief Executive of Caring Cooks, Yvonne Corbin, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Ports of Jersey for supporting our Holiday Hunger Campaign in 2025. Their generosity will help us ensure that children and families in need have access to vital meals during the school holidays, making a real difference in our community.”

Community Boost was launched in April 2024 and enables local charities to apply for support from Ports of Jersey for projects that enhance Jersey as a great place to live, work and thrive, and that will support the social, economic, and environmental development of the community. It restarts again in January, with the next funding opportunity focusing on digital innovation projects.  Applications will close at the end of February 2025.
