All 4 Megan

Two Ports of Jersey employees have been presented with the Fundraiser of the Year Award at Government House, after raising nearly £8,000 for the Jersey Child Care Trust (JCCT) with their rowing teammates.

Deputy Change Director, Aaron Gavey, and Finance Operations Manager, Alex Sieroczuk, were part of the ‘All 4 Megan’ rowing crew who took part in both the Gorey to Carteret, and Sark to Jersey, rowing races. The crew raised £7,800, and Ports of Jersey supported their efforts with £500.

The team chose to raise funds for the JCCT to thank them for all the support they have given to Aaron’s niece, Megan, who lives with Jacobsen Syndrome and needed one-to-one support to attend nursery alongside her peers.

Aaron said: “It was a tough challenge, particularly the Sark to Jersey, which was said to have experienced the roughest conditions in years. But we were delighted to have raised so much for the JCCT as they were instrumental in helping Megan to enjoy her time at nursery and to prepare her for the move to school. She is now happy and thriving at Mont à L’Abbé and we’re grateful to everyone who contributed to this fund-raising effort.”

Jacobsen Syndrome is a rare condition caused by a deletion in chromosome 11 affecting about 1 in every 100,000 people. Megan is the only person in Jersey with the syndrome. She is now eight years old and attends Mont à L’Abbé School.
