Airport road safety
From Port of Jersey
3rd March 2025
Improvement work on the airport road network starts this week. The upgrades aim to safely manage the 5,000 daily vehicle movements and enhance safety for all, especially pedestrians and cyclists.
Traffic calming measures are being installed to reduce vehicle speeds and to provide clearer, safer crossing routes for pedestrians. These measures will include a chicane on the road leading to the departures building, new speed cushions, improved lighting, new road markings and clearly marked pedestrian crossings.
This work is one aspect of the reconfiguration of the landscape to create defined areas for pedestrians and vehicles.
Airport Operations Director, Ashley Maggs (Mr) said: “We want to provide a better, safer, experience for our passengers and these measures are being put in place to protect people while they are moving around the site. As the project continues, we will be creating clear separation of vehicles and pedestrians, improved cycle routes and a covered storage area for cycles near the departures terminal.”
A planning application for the area surrounding the former hangar is scheduled to be submitted within the next month, and the curved blue wall in the Arrivals parking area will be removed in the spring. People leaving the arrivals terminal will then find open public space with views of the runway and sheltered areas for bus and taxi users to wait for onward transport.
