Ports of Jersey has submitted a planning application to prepare the way for the redevelopment of Jersey Airport.

The Airport Masterplan will see the Departures Hall – from Security to the gates – being refurbished to give passengers a more efficient and enjoyable experience.

Before work can start Swissport will be moving from the area they occupy in the Departures Hall into prefabricated buildings that will be constructed south of the terminal building. This will allow preparatory work to start on upgrading passenger facilities.

Airport Operations Director, Ashley Maggs, said: “We are asking for permission to construct some prefabricated buildings which will accommodate our ground-handling colleagues and enable redevelopment work to get underway.

“The refurbished terminal will create a welcoming environment for passengers that reflects Jersey’s distinct character. It will incorporate a vibrant, comfortable seating area and an improved range of shopping, food and drinks, including local produce.

“I would like to thank Swissport for their flexibility in accommodating this move, which will ultimately mean better facilities for both colleagues and passengers.”

This move will enable the wider terminal improvement work to begin later in the year, after the busy summer period
