Community Boost launch

From Port of Jersey
29th April 2024

Ports of Jersey is launching a new initiative for local charities to apply for funding for projects that will benefit our community.

Community Boost provides an opportunity for local charities to apply for support from Ports of Jersey to deliver projects that enhance Jersey as a great place to live, work and thrive, and that will support the social, economic, and environmental development of our community for generations to come.

Ports of Jersey CEO, Matt Thomas, said: “Ports of Jersey is at the heart of Island life, connecting Jersey to the outside world and enabling islanders to access the goods they need through our freight links.  Alongside the impact of these essential daily operations, we want to be a force for good in the community.”

Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Roffe, said: “We are aware that sourcing funding is becoming more and more difficult for charities, particularly for larger projects, so we hope that providing the opportunity to apply for funding to contribute in full, or in part, to a specific project will benefit the Island as a whole.”

Community Boost offers registered local charities the opportunity to apply for a lump sum of up to £10,000 for a specific project.

In 2024 the focus is on projects in the following areas:

  • Digital innovation for sustainability and community value – closing 31st May
  • Environmental sustainability – closing 10th September
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion, wellbeing and education – closing 16th November

All these areas will benefit the Island and Islanders, whether directly or indirectly.

Sophie added: “This is part of our new Sustainability and Community Value strategy, and it replaces our previous charitable scheme. We have worked with some amazing charities and organisations, and will maintain our relationship with many of them, but we believe we can make a bigger difference for the community by adopting a more targeted approach and supporting projects that will have a significant and long-term impact.”
