A new Chair has been appointed to the Ports of Jersey Board. Following the resignation of Mark Chown last year, Jeffrey Hume took on the role on a temporary basis. Now Geoffrey Spence has been appointed as Chair of the Board.

Mr Spence has been a member of the Board since 2018, after spending many years in a variety of senior positions within investment banking, where he specialised in financing the utilities, energy and infrastructure industries, and major projects.

Geoffrey advised the UK Government and public sector on the commercial and financing aspects of these industries, as well as being a Special Advisor to the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s advisor on business and EU policy. He was also a member of the UK Government’s Thames Estuary Commission.

Since joining the Board, Geoffrey has been chairing the Investment Committee and has been a member of the Nomination Committee.

Ports of Jersey Chief Executive, Matt Thomas, said: “I would like to thank Jeffrey Hume for standing in during the appointment process for a new Chair, and for his guidance during his time in the role.  I’m delighted that Geoffrey Spence has been appointed to the substantive position and I look forward to working with him to continue the development of Ports of Jersey.”
