Jersey Marinas have been accredited as an international ‘Clean Marina’ by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA).

The Association runs the accreditation scheme to encourage marinas across the world to manage segregated and hazardous waste, prevent spillage, manage blackwater capture and filtration in a sustainable way, and prevent plastic pollution.

As well as sharing best practice with its members, TYHA developed the Clean Marina standard and made it available to TYHA members who wish to show their continual commitment to sustainability by flying the Clean Marina flag.

Jersey Marinas were assessed by TYHA in August 2022, and were awarded accreditation in April 2023.

Head of Maritime Delivery and Business Development, Donford Nicholas, said: “We understand how important it is to ensure our marina operations do not pollute Jersey’s coastal waters. We have worked hard to ensure our infrastructure and waste systems minimise the risk to the Island’s shores and are delighted to have been recognised by the Yacht Harbour Association’s international Clean Marina scheme.”

Jersey Marinas have previously been awarded TYHA’s 5-Gold Anchor status. The Clean Marina certificate is valid for three years, after which time Jersey’s marinas will be reassessed.

The Yacht Harbour Association was established to develop the marina industry by supporting marina members of British Marine and International Members. They help boat users find good quality marinas and help marina businesses improve their services and operate to high, modern standards.
