Corbière Lighthouse floodlighting extended

From Port of Jersey
25th April 2024

Ports of Jersey is extending the floodlighting of Corbière Lighthouse for a further two weeks, until 12 May, in response to popular demand.  This extension will see the lighthouse lit up for both Liberation Day and National Fishing Remembrance Day.

Islanders’ response to the floodlighting, both on social media and in person at Corbière, has been beyond expectations. Harbour Master Captain Bill Sadler said: “We have been delighted and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to this celebration of the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse. The area has been very popular in the evenings and I have seen some amazing photos. I hope this extension will offer more time for people to view the sight in person, while also providing a backdrop to Jersey’s national day, and the remembrance day for commercial fishers.”

On request of her family, the lighthouse will be floodlit in white on 2 May to mark the funeral of Ann Robins, who died in a car accident at Corbière earlier this month.

Ports of Jersey would like to thank the St Brelade’s honorary police and residents of the area for supporting this tribute to the lighthouse and its 150 years of service.

National Fishing Remembrance Day – is a day for reflection and commemoration of all those who have lost their lives while working in fishing in the UK. It aims to raise awareness of the dangers of fishing as a profession and to remember those who have lost their lives at sea.
