Annual fees increase for 2024

From Port of Jersey
24th November 2023

Ports of Jersey has set its annual increase in fees at the harbours and Airport.

In accordance with its regulated pricing framework, set by the Jersey Competition Regulations Authority (JCRA), prices are due to rise by the September 2023 rate of inflation, plus 1%.  The increase of 11.1% will be applied from 1 January 2024.

There are exemptions to the increase.  Commercial fishers remain exempt from paying any increase in fees in view of the pressures on the local fishing industry.  In addition, price increases are not applied where pre-existing business arrangements are in place.

This annual increase takes into account the fact that Ports of Jersey’s passenger volumes and finances are still recovering from the impact of the pandemic.  Like every business, Ports of Jersey has seen significant increases in operating costs, some of which, like fuel, gas and heating, have been higher than Jersey’s RPI.

Ports of Jersey’s CEO, Matt Thomas, said: “The price framework set by the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority provides for an increase in our annual fees by the September RPI plus 1%.  We understand that for some of our customers, this will be seen as a significant increase.

“However, we are planning major capital investment at the Airport and Harbour, starting with improvements in freight and passenger facilities at Elizabeth Harbour.  All Ports of Jersey’s profits are used to invest in the Island’s critical services and infrastructure, and in the next five years we will be investing more than £100 million.  In setting this increase we have kept the future sustainability of the Island’s connectivity, and the resilience of the critical Airport and Harbour infrastructure, at the forefront of our thinking.

“We are pleased to be able to support the Island’s fishing industry by continuing to exempt commercial fishers from paying any increase in mooring fees.”

It will still be free to park for 30 minutes in the long stay car park and the cost of parking in the short stay car park (next to Arrivals) will remain at £1 per 30 minutes.  Parking in the long stay car park will increase from 90p to £1 per hour.

The existing parking promotions will remain in place until 31 January 2024.
