Community Boost supports local charities

Ports of Jersey’s new charity funding scheme has allocated its first grants. Community Boost was launched in April and enables local charities to apply for support from Ports of Jersey for projects that enhance Jersey as a great place to live, work and thrive, and that will support the social, economic, and environmental development of the community.

This first tranche of funding focused on digital innovation, and the three successful applicants were Freeda, Air Rescue Channel Islands and Jersey Recovery College.

The scheme received 13 applications, 9 of which met the digital criteria. Each project was discussed and decisions were made by a selection panel of staff from across Ports of Jersey. Each application was rated on positive impact within the community, deliverable timescale and greatest impact from the funding.

Charities can now apply for future tranches of funding, which will be focusing on environmental sustainability and diversity, equity and inclusion, community, wellbeing and education.

Head of Sustainability and Community Value, Sophie Roffe, said: “We are so excited about the projects that we have been able to support through the first tranche of funding for Community Boost, focused on digital innovation for sustainability and community wellbeing. We created Community Boost to have a targeted approach and to support projects that will have a significant and long-term impact on our Island, and these projects really align with this.”

The next funding opportunity is for projects that fit the sustainability and environmental theme.  Previous applicants that fall within this remit will be carried forward and won’t have to reapply.
