Since the start of 2019, nearly £30,000 has been raised for the four local charities currently being supported by Ports of Jersey; Caring Cooks, Healing Waves, Jersey Alzheimer’s Association and Beresford Street Kitchen.
However, because of the current Coronavirus pandemic, many of this year’s planned activities have been cancelled, resulting in a reduction in the funds that the charities expected to raise. Recognising that each of these charities are facing financial challenges, Ports of Jersey has decided to donate £3,000 to each of them now to help and support them through this difficult period.
Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Ports of Jersey, Leanne Bass, explains, “It’s understandable that due to the current situation a number of these activities have been cancelled but we wanted to demonstrate our continuing support by giving them some financial support to help them during these challenging times. We’ve built up a great relationship over the past year or so and in order to carry out some of the plans and ideas we’d talked about we have also decided to extend our support for them through to the end of 2021.”
In the meantime, Ports of Jersey, supported by a busy team of volunteers, have been producing protective face masks and selling them to the public – so far, over £2,500 has been raised and this money will also be distributed across the charities. Other staff members are also helping Caring Cooks with delivery of food and necessities to fellow islanders.
