Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor on official visit to St Helier Harbour

Jersey’s new Lieutenant-Governor, His Excellency Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd CBE, has spent this morning on an official visit to St Helier Harbour, where he met Ports of Jersey employees, toured the harbour by boat and observed a rescue exercise coordinated by Jersey Coastguard.

His Excellency, who served as an Officer in the Royal Navy for 37 years, was met at the start of his visit by the Harbour Master, Captain William Sadler, the Head of Maritime Operations, Jamie Dollimore, the Head of Marine Leisure, Simon Porritt, the Head of Marine Services, Donford Nicholas, the Head of External Maritime Compliance, Ian Clarkson, and the Coastguard and VTS Manager, Dan Downey.

He then boarded Le Mourier’s vessel the ‘Amour Toujours’ for a tour of the harbour and visited the Marine Operations Centre at Maritime House, where he met the team and observed a training exercise coordinated by Jersey Coastguard. This involved the States of Jersey Fire Service transporting an injured crew member from an isolated pontoon onto the Ports of Jersey’s workboat, the Halcyon, after which the casualty was transported to shore and a waiting ambulance at Albert Pier.

Finally, His Excellency was given an overview of the Harbour Master Plan, which proposes to transform St Helier Harbour and expand its capacity to manage the Island’s growing freight requirements. After the visit, His Excellency said: “It was a wonderful visit. As a Maritime Officer, I was particularly impressed by the professionalism, positivity, team ethos and pride within the Harbour Operations Team’
