French students study Harbour Master Plan

Forty university students studying logistics at a specialist college in Rennes have visited Elizabeth Harbour as part of an educational trip to Jersey, arranged by St Brelade’s College.

Ports of Jersey led a workshop for them, based on the Harbour Master Plan. Construction Project Manager, Tom Wright, gave the students an overview of Ports of Jersey’s plans for the redevelopment of Elizabeth Harbour.

The students then went on a tour of Elizabeth Harbour, led by representatives from Solent Stevedores and Ports of Jersey. They focused on freight logistics in both the roll-on roll-off, and lift-on lift-off, operations.

The students worked in groups and were asked to present their ideas on how to develop the port to increase its freight capacity.

Tom Wright said: “We are keen to provide more opportunities for sixth form and university students to take part in similar exercises, as we can provide a real-world construction project to inform their studies. We will be contacting local schools and colleges to invite them to get their students involved with the Harbour Master Plan. Anyone who would like to learn more about this opportunity is welcome to get in touch with us to discuss how we can help.”
