Duty-free shop at Elizabeth Terminal

From Port of Jersey
1st March 2023

A new duty-free shop is to open at Elizabeth Terminal, subject to receiving all the necessary permissions. The company which was successful in the tender process, Capi Duty Free Ports (part of B&S), is aiming to open the facility in time for the summer season.

Ports of Jersey has taken this step to provide a new service to ferry passengers, and to reflect the facilities already available at the airport. Motorists will be able to order from the car lanes, and foot passengers from within Elizabeth Terminal. There will also be the option to order duty-free purchases in advance, through an easy to navigate website.

A secure unit will be built to store duty free alcohol and other items, and a sales area will enable passengers to collect their purchases after clearing security. A modified shipping container will be used to store products in the Restricted Zone.

An open tender process was followed, and Capi Duty Free Ports (part of B&S) have been given the contract for three years. After that time the work planned as part of the Harbour Master Plan will provide a purpose-built duty-free shop.

Harbour Master, Captain Bill Sadler, said: “I’m pleased that we can now offer our ferry passengers the opportunity to buy duty free goods at the harbour. We ran a rigorous process to select the company to run the new facility, and I hope passengers take advantage of the new service as soon as it is available.”

Managing Director of Capi, Guus Jonge Poerink, said: “We are very pleased to be offering this new service at the Elizabeth Terminal and to be building on our long-term partnership with Ports of Jersey. With this new opportunity we will provide visitors and residents travelling from Jersey our strong Duty Free offer.”

The new facility will open as soon as the required permissions and licences are issued.
