What to do in an emergency – on shore

Making a 999 / 112 call from shore

If you see a marine incident from the shore or find yourself in trouble, you should dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

You will be asked to report on the incident and may need to stay in telephone contact for further communications.

Never enter the water to rescue someone yourself. Dial 999 and get help on the way. If possible, throw something that floats, such as a lifebuoy and keep a watch on the person/s in trouble.
