Regulation and guidance

All commercial and leisure mariners within Jersey’s territorial waters and Jersey Harbours should be familiar with and follow guidance given by the Directions and Notices appropriate to them as they are legally enforceable.

This website is the authority for the Directions and Notices in force and any notifications for new or updated information will only be sent by Mail2U. You can subscribe to this free service to receive these notifications by email.

Exceptionally, Directions or Notices that are considered of particular importance, or affect those outside of the marine community, will be published within the Gazette section of the Jersey Evening Post.

Permits or agreements may be required under Harbours (Jersey) Regulations 1962 for the use of facilities or the provision of services. You can find more information on this on our Designations page.

  • Codes of practice

    Codes of Practice relating to marine operations are listed here

  • Designations

    ​Permits are issued or agreements entered into through “Designations” under Regulation 6 of the Harbours (Jersey) Regulations 1962 for Provision of Services.

  • General directions

    The Harbour Master is delegated the authority to issue ‘Directions’ in circumstances as identified in States law and regulations. These are listed as ‘General Directions’

  • Notices to Mariners

    Notices to Mariners are of a temporary nature, providing essential, up to date information and advice to those navigating within the Port of Jersey.

  • Permanent notices

    Permanent notices to mariners are permanent by nature and provide essential information and advice to those navigating within the Port of Jersey. These notices will not be reissued annually but will be listed by sequence number only.
