Ports of Jersey selects its four preferred charities for 2019
From Port of Jersey,
29 January 2019
Four local charities will benefit from fund-raising and support provided by Ports of Jersey and its staff over the next two years.
The fund-raising activities form part of the company's overall corporate social responsibility programme (CSR). As well as raising fund in-house, staff are being encouraged to take part in many of the events being organised by the charities themselves during the year, with Ports of Jersey continuing to match fund any sponsorship monies raised.
In recent years, Ports of Jersey has supported a number of Jersey based charities as well as national ones with a 'local' connection. In excess of £72k has been raised over the three years on behalf of the previous four designated charities, which had been receiving support from Ports of Jersey since 2016.
As well as giving financial support to its new charities, Ports of Jersey will continue to support a number of national and on island-wide fundraising events, including Children in Need, National Poppy Appeal and the local Christmas Appeal as well as ad-hoc support to independent fund-raisers.
The four designated charities for 2019 and 2020, which have been selected by Ports of Jersey staff are:
Caring Cooks of Jersey empowers children and young people in the Island to grow, cook and eat healthy food, as well as give them the essential life skills and knowledge to lead healthy lives, both in childhood and as adults.
Healing Waves breaks down unnecessary barriers, enabling individuals living with conditions and/or disabilities both neurological and physical to access the ocean in a safe way. This is so they can participate in water sport activities, experiencing the therapeutic benefits that the ocean holds for everyone.
Jersey Alzheimer's Association seeks to raise awareness and improve understanding of dementia throughout Jersey. By providing information and advice we seek to support anybody affected by dementia in whatever way.
Beresford Street Kitchen is a social enterprise providing training and employment for people with learning disabilities and autism
Ports of Jersey will also be supporting a number of environmental initiatives to support its own Environmental Policy, which is currently being finalised and will work alongside associated charities that help meet its own commitments. Care, health and well-being charities will also receive continued support through awareness and collection boxes in the terminals. Any local charitable organisation wishing support in these particular areas are asked to email in the first instance email@example.com with details of its initiative.
