Ports of Jersey undertakes a Series of Beach Clean Challenges

From Port of Jersey,
20 April 2018

In the lead up to the 2018 Barclays Jersey Boat Show, volunteers from Ports of Jersey and its lead sponsor Barclays are teaming up undertake a series of Beach & Harbour cleans over the next 10 days.

Between Saturday 21 April and Sunday 29 April 2018 teams of volunteers from the two organisations will be aiming to tackle 13 sites around the Island, including many historic harbour sites, including Bonne Nuit, Bouley Bay and Greve de Lecq.

The invitation to join in with the ‘spring clean’ is also extended to members of the public, who may wish to join in with the organisations’ efforts. Pre-booking is not required to sign up; instead anyone interested is invited to arrive at the meeting point for each venue at the allocated time. All ‘equipment’ will be provided courtesy of local charity ‘Littlefeet Environmental’, although volunteers may wish to bring a pair of gloves and dress appropriately to the weather conditions on the day, including Wellington Boots in some areas.

On behalf of Ports of Jersey, Leanne Bass, says, “Plastic and litter pollution has sadly become a dominant feature at beaches, marinas and small harbours around the world, damaging global marine eco-systems and here in Jersey we recognise that the Island has more than its fair share. Working around the tides volunteers will be seeking to clear these areas as much as we can and we’d be delighted to welcome any more volunteers to help us with our efforts”.
