Emergency sea and air response craft

Surface assets

There are three locally based Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeboats available and one all weather lifeboat with the Jersey Lifeboat Association that the Jersey Coastguard can call upon at any time to respond to incidents.

Additional locally based search and rescue craft include:

  • two D class Jersey Fire and Rescue inshore craft Alpha and Bravo manned by duty personnel
  • Ports of Jersey’s tug, Duke of Normandy, which due to its capacity is often chosen as transport for the States Fire and Rescue Marine Response (MR) team in the event of a medical emergency or fire on board a ship within territorial waters
  • the States Fisheries Protection Vessel, Norman Le Brocq, capable of operating as either a patrol vessel or as a platform for fisheries research. It is available to Jersey Coastguard for limited use as an emergency asset, although its priority work is fisheries research
  • the two Ports of Jersey Pilot cutters Rival and Le Fret

French, UK and Guernsey based military and rescue craft are additional off-Island resources that can be called upon by Jersey Coastguard at any time.

Air assets

Channel Islands Air Search is a charity organisation with a volunteer crew operating an aircraft to provide an air search capability.

French and UK based rescue helicopters and fixed wing aircraft are additional off-Island resources that can be called upon by Jersey Coastguard at any time.
